Description

A delicate and charming study of a young woman, identified on the reverse as 'Mrs. Jarvis'. She is dressed in clothing typical of the later half of the 18th century, with sweeping hair and curls around the shoulders. A label to the reverse of the backing board reads 'Copy by Eleanor Green Jarvice, January 1860. Mrs. Jarvis her grandmother...by Russell.' This most likely refers to the British artist John Russell (1745-1806), the noted society portraitist. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including areas of discolouration and foxing. With some fading of the fragile medium. Small 1cm tear to the left edge. With light creasing to the outer edges.

Size

31.5 x 26cm (12.4" x 10.2")
Sheet: 36 x 31.3cm (14.2" x 12.3")
