Edwin Edwards - Original 1871 Etching. Dimensions of plate: 28 x 20cm. Monogrammed and Dated. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Wear and creasing to edges. Losses to upper right corner and staining to upper left.

Edwin Edwards (1823-79) was a lawyer by training but he also practised as an artist and etcher and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. At his house in Sunbury-on-Thames he hosted many important artists including Haden, Whistler, Manet and Fantin-Latour. He subjects included cathedral cities and Cornish and Thames scenes.

Collection Information

From a collection of etchings forming the complete set of the third and final part of Edwards’ etchings of Old Inns published by his wife in 1881 (after his death). “Old Inns” was a huge undertaking for Edwards, published in 3 volumes.
