With craquelure across the artwork, most notably to brown paint pigment. Inspection under UV light shows no retouching to the paint. There is a minor loss to the edge of the frame to the lower right edge.

Scarborough born painter of land and coastal scenes in oil, who lived most of his life in Reigate, Surrey, and Willesden, North London where he eventually settled. He painted many Yorkshire scenes and exhibited extensively. His showing venues included the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, London Salon, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and Arthur Tooth & Sons. Examples of his work are in the collections of Rossendale Museum, Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Stockport Art Gallery, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, Tameside Museums and Galleries, Usher Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and York Museums Trust.
