Description

A hand-painted gouache costume design by the French illustrator and decorator Édouard Halouze (1895–1958). The design depicts a classic Parisian street-vendor dating back to the 18th century. Vendors of oublies traditionally carried their wafers in a tin cylinder topped with a spinning numbered wheel; customers would pay a coin to spin it and win a corresponding number of wafers. The illustration has been beautifully presented in a contemporary oak frame. Inscribed and numbered 64. Signed lower left. On paper.

Condition

Maintains a desirable character and patina. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
