An atmospheric and captivating watercolour painting by the artist Ebenezer John Woods PRIOR (1914-1988). The scene depicts a view of Rydal Water in Lake District. Location and artist's name inscribed on the reverse. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Presented in an off-white card mount and in a distressed off-white wooden frame.
On watercolour paper.


The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, otherwise in fine condition. Some trapped dirt underneath the glazing. Small scuffs and abrasion marks to the frame.

Artist Biography

Ebenezer John Woods Prior (1914-1988) was a Bradford-born landscape painter, known as Jack Prior. He was largely self-taught with a little help from Ernest William Haslehurst, and he worked in the family wool business until its closure in 1971. He then turned to painting full-time. Noted for paintings of the Yorkshire Dales, he exhibited at the RA, RBA, Royal Cambrian Academy and in Yorkshire.
