The scene shows the Annunciation with Angel Gabriel, bringing a martyrs palm to Mary as she and Joseph sew and toil the land. The painting has nods to the Byzantine frescoes, European folk art and the 19th Century naive School of British art. The painting is unsigned and presented in a handsome and substantial 20th Century gilt frame with oversized molding. On re-lined canvas.
Condition
The painting has been relined and has many areas of loss, retouching, abrasion and discolouration across the surface. The frame is in fine condition.
