The scene comes from The Old Testament, and tells of three angels visiting Abraham to tell him that his wife, Rachel, shall bear a child. There is a beautiful tenderness to this scene, with the angels depicted gathered round Abraham with gentle poise. The painting is unsigned. On canvas.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and patina. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of
restoration. There are two canvas repairs to the reverse. Some wear to the paint at the outer edges of the canvas.
