Early 19th Century Watercolour - Country House with Figures in a Punt

Description

An extremely fine and detailed watercolour landscape, with a large country house in the Palladian style. The artist has composed a bucolic parkland scene, with a Classical temple in the distance, and various figures including a group on the lake in a punt. The use of a soft palette with brown hues has produced an autumnal setting, and minute flowing brushwork creates a sense of movement, also inferred by the swans and figures. Well-presented in a washline mount with gilt detail, as shown. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

There is discolouration and mount burn, expected for a picture of this age. There are also small tears to the edges of the wove, as well as losses to the upper left corner and lower edge. The lower left corner has been cropped. All of these are hidden by the mount at present. There are two closed tears that have been repaired to the reverse. There is also some surface abrasion to the right edge of the picture.
