An enchanting watercolour landscape with white body colour in which a sweeping path leads towards Castle Lodge on a hill, surrounded by windswept trees. The lodge was likely built between 1806 and 1820 when the Farleigh House estate was inherited by Colonel John Houlton, who subsequently undertook significant building and alterations in the Gothic Revival style. Presented glazed in a washline mount and gilt-effect frame with floral detailing and beading to the edges. Unsigned. On wove.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some minor foxing and discolouration, including to the mount. Some small losses to the moulding on the frame: to the corners, to the top of the right-hand edge, and to the left of the top edge. Overall in good condition.
