A striking early 19th Century portrait of excellent quality, showing a gentleman in Regency dress. His high collared black coat add weight to the overall composition, with the wing collar shirt and linen necktie, frame the sitter's face, adding a crispness to the portrait. The painting is presented in a handsome 19th Century gilt frame with ornate foliate corners and low relief scrolling strap work. The painting is unsigned. This portrait was acquired by Sulis Fine Art as a pair, the other being a portrait of the sitter's wife, identically framed. On relined canvas.
Condition
The canvas has been fully relined. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor areas of restoration. The frame has had a contemporary gilt effect finish applied, with areas of successful restoration.
