Description
A charming mid-19th century portrait of a young master dressed in classical robes and holding a bucket. Set against a romantic dusk landscape and captured in three-quarter view, he meets the viewer’s gaze as he stands before a tranquil coastal backdrop. The work is reminiscent of 'Portrait of Master Hare' also known as 'Infancy' by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Signed and dated to the lower left. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Light discolouration to the varnish. Craquelure across the surface. Minor indentations to the lower margin. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Some wear to the frame, including scuffs and stable cracking. Overall, the frame is in very good condition.
