Description
A fine late Georgian/early Victorian portrait (circa 1830) of a Quaker in a lace bonnet and black dress. She holds an open book in her hand and her wedding band has been delicately picked out with a soft highlight that draws attention to her marital status. The painting is unsigned, on canvas over stretchers and has been handsomely presented in a substantial 19th Century gilt frame with swept corners and rail and acanthus leaf details. On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. There are three repairs to the canvas at the reverse which are somewhat visible at the front. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration.
