Description
A painting of a young peasant woman washing tankards in the manner of 17th-century Dutch Golden Age genre paintings. There are similarities in the subject matter and posture to Gerrit Dou's (1613-1675) painting 'Girl Chopping Onions' (1646) in the Royal Collection Trust, UK. Presented in a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
There is some stable craquelure and cupping to the paint layer. There are some very small losses in the upper-right corner and some mild scuffs to the edges of the frame.
