A lively genre scene depicting a street musician, perhaps inspired by Dutch Golden Age painter Adriaen von Ostade's (1610-1685) similar compositions. The central figure holds a rommelpot, a traditional Dutch friction drum. Well presented in a dark burgundy frame with a gilt inner edge. Unsigned. On panel.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration and dirtying. Vertical split to the panel, which has been repaired. Areas of overpainting. Several scratches, most notably to the upper centre. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
