A crisp engraving showing the river Thames with barges on the water and London's skyline in the distance. The artist has signed in graphite to the lower edge and the etching has been presented in a simple wood frame with layered card mount. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Scuffing at all sides of the frame.

Artist Biography
Etcher, engraver and watercolourist. Born in Hammersmith, London, son of the painter Charles Ion Smart. He studied under Sir Frank Short (q.v.) at the Royal College of Art from 1904, where his fellow students were Malcolm Osbourne (q.v.) and Nathaniel Sparks. He specialised in landscape subjects in France, Italy, Spain and in England, especially of the River Thames. He was a member of the Society of Etchers and Engravers and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy. He also showed at Colnagi, Chenil Gallery, Glasgow Institute, the International Society, Fine Art Society, Walker Gallery, Liverpool, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He lived in London and latterly in Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire. His work is held by the British Council, V&A Museum, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and the British Museum.
