This accomplished still life study by Dorothy Southern depicts onions in a fluted turquoise bowl places on a large patterned kilim rug. The scene appears to take inspiration from the Bloomsbury group with a strong focus on colour, pattern and form. Signed with initials to the lower right, and inscribed with the artist's name and address to the reverse. On board.Condition
Some light wear to the edges of the board. Some minor scratches to the paintings surface.

Artist Biography
Dorothy Southern was an artist from the North East of England who married fellow artist Trevor Frankland RBA in 1957, after the two met in their teenage years.
In 1969, Trevor and Dorothy took the first of many trips abroad, travelling through the Middle East and North Africa and beyond to Afghanistan and Iran, Pakistan and India. The many Islamic and Persian motifs and patterns evident in her work are a testament to the influence of her extensive travels.
