Painting wildlife is the passion of Dino Paravano, who was born in Italy, lived in South Africa for 44 years and is now an American Citizen. His unique understanding and ability to portray animals in their natural habitats, is brilliantly expressed in pastel and oil. Initially educated at the Johannesburg Art School Pavano’s natural artistic talents were further enhanced by extensive study tours to Europe, England, the United States and South America. Ultimately he is mainly self-taught, having perfected his skillful use of light and tone in the studio over many years.
Extensive travel and the time spent in South Africa afforded Paravano the privilege of viewing the animals in their natural habitat and in diverse settings. This intimacy with the South African landscape has had an impact on his colour palette and use of earthy tones, which reflects his ability to capture the essence of the bushveld.
Paravano has had 14 one-man exhibitions in the major cities in South Africa, London and New York and his work has been exhibited in more than 200 international shows. He has also been an exhibiting member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists since 1979; his work included in tours and chosen for the poster and catalogue cover in 1996. Since 1992, he has been a member and exhibitor of the Pastel Society of America. His work can be found in Museums, corporate and private collections all over the world.
