Description

An atmospheric architectural study by Dilly Georges Hippolyte (1876-1942), depicting gable-fronted buildings surrounding the town square at Arras, France. The composition captures daily life in the square, where figures gather in conversation as the sun begins to rise. The painting is elegantly presented in an ornate gilt frame with C-scroll mouldings and shell and acanthus leaf ornamentation. Signed to the lower left. On board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Light marks/scuffs to the surface of the artwork. Minor bloom visible to the lower third of the composition. Light wear to the gilt effect frame to include corner losses and repairs. The overall condition of the artwork is good.
