Description
A charming oil study depicting farmers harvesting wheat. In the foreground a mother watches over her children as they watch the harvest sitting in the stubble between the sheafs. Horses pulling a hay cart can be seen in the distance before a rolling valley landscape. The artist shows inspiration from the Barbizon school style which romanticised the lives of the rural working class, creating beautiful harvest and agricultural paintings. Signed to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame with a foliate inner running pattern. On canvas.Condition
The painting has undergone some restoration and canvas repairs. There is some light marking to the surface of the paining and minor discolouration to the varnish. There is light wear to the frame.
