Coeyun - 20th Century Mixed Media Vietnamese Wheat Harvest

Description

A highly unusual and unique lacquered panel showing a scene of Vietnamese field workers in traditional workwear, joyfully bringing in the wheat harvest. This piece employs a very unique technique of laying down silver leaf over a wooden panel. This is painted over and rubbed back to create metallic highlights and a glowing metallic sheen over the whole painting. There is also inlay of a bright white eggshell effect mosaic on the hats and tools of the workers. An intense colour palette of red, gold and green gives the scene a very intense atmosphere. The piece is finished with a very high gloss lacquer that enhances the intensity of colour and metallic undertones. Unsigned. On wood panel.

Condition

The painting has several small losses to the lacquer and paint, most notably to the centre, and lower centre area.
