Description
Ariadne, having been deserted on the island of Naxos by her lover Theseus, is discovered by the god Bacchus. An inscription to the lower margin reads "BA: AN: Coentgen fecit," followed by an indistinct date. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. The canvas has been relined, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. Scuffs and stable cracking to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
