The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is scuffing and scratching to the wove, particularly to the lower left and right corners.

Claude Rowbotham is famous for inventing a single plate coloured etching process, which he used with good effect to record topographical scenes throughout the country.
He came to Falmouth after suffering from ill health. He was advised by doctors to move to the South of France during cold winters, but this was more than he could afford so he spent his winters in Falmouth, a place noted for its mild climate.
Rowbotham died in 1949 leaving over 500 different subjects. Under the terms of his will the plates were destroyed.
