Description
An accomplished late 19th century oil in the manner of Thomas Stanley Barber (act.1891-1899), depicting an idyllic river scene with roaming cattle and mountains beyond. Barber's works often typified the gentle countryside of his time, depicting swaying trees, rambling footpaths, meandering rivers and grazing cattle. The painting is left unsigned. Well presented in a distressed gilt frame with swept rail and acanthus leaf mouldings.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by a buildup of nicotine and surface dirt. Signs of wear and tear to the gilt frame include abrasion to the gilt patina, as well as a small amount of stable cracking.
