Description

From the circle of John Hoppner (1758-1810), this sensitive oil portrait captures a young girl in a flower garden. The sitter is dressed innocently in white with a pale blue sash and coral beaded necklace. A spaniel sits obediently by her side, awaiting playful affection. Presented in a gilt-effect frame finished with delicate running patterns. Unsigned. On canvas.

Condition

Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration/overpainting. The canvas has been relined. Fine craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface. Minor surface marks/abrasions are present. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips and scuffs. Overall, the artwork presents in very good condition for its age.
