Christopher Alexander (1926-1982) - Mid 20th Century Chalk Drawing, Male Study

An exceptionally fine figurative portrait of a well dressed male with a pen, by the British artist Christopher Alexander ARE ARCA (1926-1982). Through a delicate treatment of light, and subtle shading, the artist has produced a detailed subject with a monochrome palette. Alexander had a specialism in figurative drawing, and this work demonstrates both his skill in chalk, and subtle shading of form to portray the character accurately. Displayed in a double card mount and well presented in a silver painted wooden frame, as shown. Artist stamp in the lower right hand corner. On wove.

Very minor areas of discolouration in the picture and some minor surface damage to the frame. Generally in good condition.

40.5 x 32cm (15.9" x 12.6")
Framed Size: 62.4 x 52.3cm (24.6" x 20.6")

Artist Biography

From a humble background in Margate, Kent, and with an education disrupted by the Second World War, Christopher Alexander (1926-1982) worked tirelessly on his drawing skills and eventually achieved a place at the Royal College of Art.

After graduating, he accepted a teaching job at the Thanet School of Art, before moving to the Canterbury College of Art, where his particular specialism was figure drawing. An inspirational, amusing and dedicated teacher, he still found time to produce a phenomenal number of drawings and oil paintings.
