A fine figurative portrait of a young gentleman by the British artist Christopher Alexander ARE ARCA (1926-1982). Through a delicate treatment of light, and subtle shading, the artist has produced a detailed subject with a monochrome palette. Alexander had a specialism in figurative drawing, and this work demonstrates both his skill in unusual mediums, and subtle shading of form to portray the character accurately. With artist's stamp on the reverse. On canvas paper. Signed and dated.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age. With some surface dirt and very light foxing.

Artist Biography
From a humble background in Margate, Kent, and with an education disrupted by the Second World War, Christopher Alexander (1926-1982) worked tirelessly on his drawing skills and eventually achieved a place at the Royal College of Art.
After graduating, he accepted a teaching job at the Thanet School of Art, before moving to the Canterbury College of Art, where his particular specialism was figure drawing. An inspirational, amusing and dedicated teacher, he still found time to produce a phenomenal number of drawings and oil paintings.
