Description

A beautiful topographical view of London from Greenwich. The artist has used a textured gesso ground full of swirling brushstrokes to add extra grace and depth the the landscape. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left corner. The painting has been presented in a handsome, contemporary gilt frame with foliate strapwork. There is a gallery label at the reverse with the name of the painting and the artist's address. On board.

In fine condition. The frame has minor scuffing.

Artist Biography

Charles Smith was a painter in oil and Watercolour. Smith was born in Chislehurst in Kent and attended the Brixton School of Building and Architecture and Camberwell School Of Art and Crafts. During WWII he served in the RAF. Smith mainly painted Marine scenes and was a member of the renowned Wrapping Group of Artists and President from 1987-1992. Smith was also a member of the Chelsea Art Society, the Croydon Art Society and was a fellow of the Royal Society Of Artists.
