Description

A finely painted architectural study of a classical church archway in Heidelberg, Germany. Painted by the well listed American watercolourist Charles Edmund Dana on October 12th, 1888. Laid to backing card. Signed and dated and inscribed. On wove.

Condition

There is an area of visible mount burn to the upper right edge and lower left edge, which could be covered with a frame. Otherwise in good condition.

Artist Biography

The Yale University Art Gallery holds a medal belonging to Charles Edmund Dana from 1914 in their collection. The medal is from the Museum and Antiquarian Society of Philadelphia. Dana's work has a strong presence on the American and British auction markets.
