Artist Biography

Charles Betremieux was born in France in 1919 and was predominantly inspired by the artistic movements that arose during the 1930s. He studied at the Ecole Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes alongside Raymond Debieve, a fellow French painter, where their work was quickly noticed and rewarded. The artistic period that inspired Betremieux was characterised by the clashing of many political ideologies. Surrealism continued to dominate in Europe, and had significant influence internationally. This collection utilises these attributes with form and beauty at the forefront, and an underlying juxtaposition between nature and urban spaces. Charles Betremieux exhibited at Durand-Ruel in 1953 and at the Musee d'Art Moderne de Paris. His work can be found in private collections across France.
