Cattle rest peacefully on the riverbank in this idyllic eighteenth-century oil painting. To the right, a woman and child stand beneath a tree, holding a milk pail. The tranquil rural scene is beautifully presented in a gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Faint scratch to the lower left and upper right. The canvas has been relined, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
