Max Wulfart (1876-1955) was born in Russia, but moved to France in 1903. Before arriving in France he studied at the Odessa Academy, and then at the École des Beaux-arts in Paris. He was predominantly a portrait and interior painter. Many of his portraits were exhibited at the Salon, such as those of Albert Einstein, King Alfonso XIII of Spain, Manuel García Prieto, José Canalejas, and Jacques Duboin.
