A charming 19th-century oil painting after Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617–1682) depicting three ragged street urchins. Two boys crouch over a game of dice on the ground whilst a third stands to the left, staring directly at the viewer. A small dog waits patiently for scraps. The warm chiaroscuro lighting and loose, fluid handling of cloth reflect the Spanish Baroque tradition he mastered. The painting is housed in a simple gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On canvas.
Condition
The artwork presents in good condition for its age. Light surface discolouration throughout including yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration. The frame has minor surface wear.
