Description

A richly detailed depiction of Saint Ignatius of Loyola after Rubens (1577-1640). Saint Ignatius founded the religious order of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits. He is depicted here wearing sumptuously patterned vestments adorned with gold and pearls, a superb display of the artist's talent. He gazes towards the heavens, where the monogram of Christ (IHM) - an identifying attribute of Saint Ignatius - appears in the sky. Well presented in a smart black frame. Unsigned. On panel.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration. Cracking and some losses to the paint layer. Minor marks and scuffs to the frame.
