Artist Biography
David Wood (1933-1996) was a painter and printmaker born in Scotland. He travelled widely as a young man in the Merchant navy, visiting the Far East and China. On his return to the UK, he studied art at Edinburgh College of Art, Sir John Cass College of Art, and later at the Slade School of Fine Art. He exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Society of British Artists, Colchester Art Society, The Minories in Colchester, the John Russell Gallery in Ipswich, and Chappel Galleries in Essex. Wood was a member of the Ipswich Art Club, and as a printmaker, he was involved with the Gainsborough's House Print Workshop in Sudbury. Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Royal College of Art and the Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport. David Wood ran a gallery and lived for many years at Gould House, Dedham.
