A striking early 19th-century portrait of Petrus Verwilghen. An inscription in Latin records that he was born May 1756 and he died on the seventh of March 1824. His gaze is direct and solemn, confronting the viewer with quiet intensity. He is dressed in smart attire, wearing a silk necktie typical of the time. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame. Listed alongside a companion piece SX020. On canvas laid to panel.
Condition
Some discolouration to the surface. Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals very small areas of restoration. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Light wear to the frame, including scuffs and indentations. Overall the frame is in very good condition.
