Description

An atmospheric maritime scene, in which a sailing barge navigates tempestuous waters as brooding dark clouds advance over clifftops, obscuring the previously sunny blue skies. The work is indistinctly signed to the lower left and is well presented in a vintage gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure. Small losses to the paint near the centre. Faint impressions from the stretchers are visible. Areas of overpainting. marks, scuffs, and losses to the frame.
