Description

A 19th-century maritime scene depicts a sturdy fishing vessel with amber-coloured sails navigating choppy, green-tinged waters beneath a luminous sky. The composition captures the drama of seafaring, with the main boat prominently positioned in the foreground whilst additional vessels recede into the distance. Well presented in a swept gilt frame with floral and acanthus ornamentation. Unsigned. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure observed throughout. Light surface discolouration including yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals minor areas of restoration. The canvas has been previously relined. The frame has moderate surface wear and stable cracking. Various repairs to the swept rails. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
