Description

An accomplished copy of Roberto Ferruzzi's (1853-1934) *Madonnina*, commonly known as the *Madonna of the Streets*. The original painting won the second Venice Biennale in 1897, but has since been lost. The models for this painting were eleven-year-old Angelina Cian and her younger brother. Although not originally conceived as a religious work, it became popularised as an image of the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus. Indistinctly signed to the lower right, possibly "C.W. Tieri." Well presented in a swept gilt-effect frame. On paper.

Condition

The condition is good for a picture of this age. Slight discolouration and foxing to the paper. Wear and scuffs to the frame.

Size

25.5 x 20.5cm (10.0" x 8.1")
