An early 20th-century maritime painting depicting a three-masted, full-rigged ship under full sail flying the Imperial German flag, with a smaller vessel visible on the horizon. Carl Evers, active in Bremen around 1900, specialised in this genre of captain's portraits. The work possesses a charming folk art aesthetic and is signed lower right, dated 1908. Presented in a simple strip frame. On canvas laid to hardboard.
Condition
A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Minor surface marks/abrasions are present. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration/overpainting. The canvas has been previously laid down to hardboard. Overall, the artwork presents in good condition for its age.
