A charming circa 1800 Dutch oil depicting a group of travellers on horseback paused near a country inn. Painted in the manner of the Flemish artist Carel van Falens (1683–1733), the work is well presented in a gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On panel.Condition
A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Minor surface marks and abrasions to the perimeter. Inspection under UV light reveals an area of overpainting to the lower left quadrant. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Signs of historic woodworm are present, fully treated and pest-free. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
