Description

Seabirds soar over stormy seas in this striking early-twentieth-century seascape. The artist renders the sublime power and dramatic movement of the crashing waves with remarkable realism, and captures the full range of blue tones, from deep navy to luminous turquoise, with white foaming crests. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and craquelure. Faint scuff to the upper centre, and some wear around the margins where the surface has rubbed against the frame. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Scuffing and small losses to the frame.
