This sensitive late 19th century portrait depicts a beautiful German lady in profile, with luxuriant auburn hair styled in an elaborate Victorian coiffure. The composition features soft, considered brushwork that captures the subject's graceful neck and bare shoulders, draped in delicate fabric. Presented in a decorative gilt-effect frame. Signed to the lower right and dated 1899. On thin cardboard mounted on board.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Inspection under UV light reveals minor areas of restoration and overpainting. There is some craquelure to the surface, just below the lady's eye. Light wear to the gilt effect frame.
