This fine Biedermeier-period portrait depicts a young lady in a refined black dress, delicately trimmed with lace, and complemented by a matching hair ribbon. Her long hair, parted at the centre, is looped gracefully over her ears and gathered into a neat bun—a hairstyle characteristic of the 1840s. Her direct gaze is accompanied by a subtle, polite smile. The artist renders her with delicate brushwork and soft, diffused lighting, expertly capturing her elegance. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with delicate floral ornaments. On canvas laid to panel.

Condition

Light discolouration to the varnish. Fine craquelure and minor abrasions throughout. Small areas of overpainting to the right of the background. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Wear to the frame including fine cracking, scuffs and small chips. The frame is slightly warped. Some historic restoration, notably a repair to the lower ornament. Overall the frame is also in very good condition for its age.
