Description
Figures populate an overcast street in this atmospheric scene by Dutch artist Bernardus Cornelis Noltee (1903-1967). The artist employs broad brushstrokes with areas of subtle impasto to capture the moody ambience. Signed to the lower right and well presented in a distressed black and gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Overall, the condition is good for a picture of this age. Discolouration and craquelure. Small loss to the lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Scuffs and scratches to the frame leave it with a distressed finish.
