Description

A wonderful architectural study by British artist Benjamin J. M. Donne (1831-1928), depicting the magnificent theatre of Marcellus with peasant gathered outside. The watercolour is signed with the artist's monogram below the mount. Well presented in an attractive gilt frame with scrolling strapwork. Fixed to the reverse is a signed artist label. On watercolour paper.

Condition

Considering its age, the picture is in a very good condition with minor discolouration. There are some signs of stable cracking to the gilt frame on all members and slight splitting at the top left mitre.
