Description

This charming children's illustration depicts the popular 1920s character and soft toy, Dismal Desmond, made in England by Dean's Rag Book Co. In his day Desmond featured as the mascot for the England Cricket Team, as well as a mascot in the ladies changing rooms at Wimbledon. He remained in production until World War II, and was later reintroduced in the 1980's and 90's. Here he is pictured with his sad face and drooping pink tongue. Signed and dated to the lower left-hand corner. Newly mounted in a glazed black gloss frame. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Signs of wear and tear to the black frame include light scratches to the black gloss.
