August Hermann Knoop (1856-1919) was a German genre painter. He studied at the Munich Art Academy from 1876 to 1880, and then in the studio of Fernand Cormon in Paris, before returning to Munich. His work typically focused on the social life of the nobility during the eighteenth century and Renaissance. Knoop was not a regular exhibitor, preferring to sell directly to private individuals and art collectors. He was, however, represented at an exhibition at the Glaspalast in Munich and in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition.
