Description

A scene at a country river with figures walking and mooring a rowing boat in the foreground. Presented glazed in a wash line mount with gold detailing and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Unsigned. Inscribed with the name of the artist to the lower edge of the mount. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some minor foxing and discolouration. There are some mild dents and scratches to the frame. Overall well-presented and in good condition.

Artist Biography

Richard Horwell Woodman (fl.1842-1885) was a British landscape painter. He was the son of the watercolourist, engraver, draughtsman, and miniaturist Richard Woodman the Younger (1784-1859). He exhibited in London from 1842 to 1885 and notably at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1848, 1851, 1854, and 1858.
