Evening light casts a golden glow over this expansive lake view, as a horse and cart travel along a track in the foreground. There are numerous German inscriptions verso, including labels attributing the work to Justine Seitz-Zeller (b.1856), a landscape and flower painter from Bern. Other labels are partially illegible but reference the composer Richard Wagner and Villa Wesendonck. Wagner stayed at Villa Wesendonck, where he fell in love with Mathilde Wesendonck and was inspired to write 'Tristan and Isolde'. Monogrammed 'S.E.H.' to the lower right. Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure. Areas of overpainting. Marks, scuffs, and stable cracking to the frame leave it with a distressed finish.
