A finely painted portrait of a bearded gentleman wearing a wide brimmed hat and a red cape, attributed to the German artist Johann Georg Trautmann (1713-1769). The piece is executed in a manner reminiscent of Rembrandt, with dramatic chiaroscuro lighting casting much of the sitter's face into shadow. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. Condition
The condition is very good for a picture of this age. Discolouration to the paint, and areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame and cracking to the ornamentation.
